About the Legal Office

The Legal Office provides advice to the University and its controlled entities on all legal matters affecting the University.

Some of the services we provide include:

  • Legal Advice: providing verbal and written advice to University staff at all levels within the University.
  • Agreements: drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents such as funding agreements, leases, access agreements, services and consultancy agreements, confidentiality agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOU’s), among others,
  • Dealing with subpoenas and assisting with freedom of information (FOI) and privacy queries, and
  • Managing litigation involving the University.

About the Legal Office (Research)

The Legal Office (Research) is a separate unit within the Legal Office dedicated to providing research-related legal advice.

The Legal Office (Research) provides practical legal advice to enable the University to undertake research on terms consistent with the University’s policies and procedures while protecting the research interests of the University.

Each of the Legal Counsel (Research) is assigned a portfolio of Faculties and Schools to provide legal advice and negotiate and draft agreements connected with scheme-based sponsored research, contract and funded research and clinical trial research. Additionally, advice is provided on a range of non-funded research activities including confidentiality agreements, IP assignments and licences, data sharing agreements, subcontracts and material transfer arrangements.
